The Core Quality Requirements
Before evaluating any supplier, establish your baseline requirements. For research-grade peptides, these are non-negotiable:

The CoA should include: compound name and molecular formula, lot number, manufacturing date, HPLC purity result with the actual chromatogram, endotoxin result in EU/mg, and the name of the testing laboratory.
2. Third-party vs. in-house testing
A CoA issued by the same company that manufactured the peptide is self-reported data. Independent third-party testing from an accredited laboratory is the standard for research-grade documentation. Ask specifically: who performed the testing, and what is their accreditation?
3. HPLC chromatogram access
The purity percentage means nothing without the chromatogram. A supplier reporting "99% purity" based on a chromatogram with significant impurity shoulders that were excluded from the calculation is technically accurate but practically misleading. Request the actual chromatogram PDF for your lot.
4. Endotoxin data
This is the most commonly omitted quality parameter. Endotoxin testing adds cost and time — suppliers cutting corners skip it first. For any biological research application, endotoxin data is required. If it's not on the CoA, ask for it. If they can't provide it, move on.
5. Manufacturing transparency
ISO certification documentation should be available on request. Suppliers operating in ISO-certified facilities have documented quality management systems — this is verifiable, not just a marketing claim.
6. Compound range and catalog stability
A supplier with a stable, documented catalog of compounds is more likely to have consistent quality control processes than one with a constantly changing inventory. Look for suppliers who maintain consistent lot documentation across their catalog.
Red Flags: What to Avoid
- No lot-specific CoA — generic documentation tells you nothing about what's in your vial
- Purity percentage without chromatogram — the number is unverifiable without the data
- No endotoxin data — incomplete quality control
- Self-reported testing only — no independent verification
- No response to pre-purchase documentation requests — legitimate suppliers provide documentation readily
- Unusually low pricing — research-grade synthesis, purification, and testing have real costs; pricing significantly below market usually reflects quality shortcuts
